Evelyn Hamlett
Evelyn Hamlett, who went to be with her Heavenly Father on Feb. 27 in Corpus Christi, Texas, was born in Rocksprings, Texas on Sept. 30, 1921. She was the only child of John A. and Ida Henry.
After graduating from Rocksprings High School in 1939, Evelyn received her bachelor”s degree from Baylor University in 1943. Following this, she attended M & S School of Nu
rsing where she received her RN degree in 1946.
In 1944, Evelyn married James R. Hamlett in Rocksprings, Texas. They lived in Rio Grande City and Jourdanton where she taught fourth grade.
After moving to Lockhart in August,1950, she became district-wide school nurse for Lockhart ISD until her retirement in May 1984.
The First Lockhart Baptist Church was an important part of Evelyn”s life. She was an active member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and gave freely of her time and talents. Even after moving to Corpus Christi with her family, she remained a dedicated member of the Lockhart church.
In her community she served several years on the Caldwell County Health Board. She was also a former member of the Lockhart Chapter of the Eastern Star and the Nile Club.
Evelyn was a people person. She used her nursing skills and words of encouragement for the uplifting of every life she touched. Evelyn”s enjoyment of the outdoors was reflected in the beauty of her yard. She had beautiful flowers that she nurtured and loved to share with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and oldest daughter, Jackie Lynn Hamlett. She is survived by her daughter Tamye; son-in-law, Duke; and grandchildren Stacye D”Lynn and Jimmy Roberson.
Visitation was held at the First Lockhart Baptist Church at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2 at the same location. Memorials may be given to the First Lockhart Baptist Church.
