Those who upload themselves into the system expand their consciousness far beyond natural human limits. But when they return to their bodies and the everyday world\, they struggle to function\, finding their memories\, their speech\, and even their dreams changed beyond recognition.\nNo one fully understands why people choose to upload themselves they must know they’ll come back shattered. But Mara has done it. Now she must find a way to hold on to the one person who matters most in her life\, even as the reality she knew seems to be slipping away.

The festival is free except for two events – ticket purchase information below. \nFriday\, September 27th \nThe Festival begins 7:00 pm on Friday evening at the Two Wishes Ranch\, located about 8 miles outside of Lockhart. The address there is 454 Hobby Horse Road\, Lockhart\, Texas\, 78644.  The Friday event is known as “The Gathering”\, and includes the 32nd Annual Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame Show\, featuring Al Dressen’s Super Swing Revue\,  a ten piece Western Swing ensemble.  \nThe Show features special guests including  Tony Harrison\,  Joe Settlemires\,  Louise Rowe\, Georgia Parker\, Sophia Johnson\,  Hillary Klug\, Jerry Case\, and more. DESCRIPTION:Jordan Moser & Sarah Reyes will swoon us with their musical talents. \nRead what Austin Chronicle said about the new album by Jordan Moser : \n\nFollowing a decade of ballet performance and recording music\, Jordan Moser turns a fresh leaf on his local Keeled Scales debut. The carefully curated collection of country folk slides open softly on the steel guitar-shaped “Down With Me.” Rich hums separate Moser’s literary lines\, echoed by the smoky tone of Austin’s Molly Burch on all eight tracks\, including a feature for final Western duet “Road to Trouble.” Pointed instrumentation and Dailey Toliver’s swooping guitar curves make the album agreeable for Burch fans\, darkened with a dense tangle of lovesick reflections. “The Devil” prays wearily to the eternal challenge of romance (“Oh Devil\, let us sleep like we used to”)\, followed by the title track’s warning: “It’s gonna be a long\, long night.” That sentiment comes to a head on “Love Is Gonna Test You\,” foiling bright beats over placement in “a wilderness of the soul.” The writings of a witty\, well-traveled skeptic\, Moser’s songs slip out like sighs. Sometimes the breaths are resigned\, but others mark entrance of a new beginning.

DESCRIPTION:The Texas Water Resources Institute will host a free Texas Riparian and Stream Ecosystem Education Program workshop from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Lockhart State Park\, 2012 State Park Rd in Lockhart for area residents interested in land and water stewardship in the Plum Creek watershed. \n  \nThe training will focus on the nature and function of stream and riparian zones and the benefits and direct impacts from healthy riparian zones. The riparian education programs will cover an introduction to riparian principles\, watershed processes\, basic hydrology\, erosion/deposition principles and riparian vegetation\, as well as potential causes of degradation and possible resulting impairment(s)\, and available local resources including technical assistance and tools that can be employed to prevent and/or resolve degradation. \n  \nThis workshop is being co-hosted by the Plum Creek Watershed Partnership\, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Caldwell County and the Texas Water Resources Institute. Lyrical imagery and textures that whisper their way effortlessly into the heart\, Jeff’s songs are haunting treatises on longing and remembrance. A graduate of Duke University\, (winner of the prestigious Academy of American Poets Award) Jeff earned his Masters from the Warren Wilson College MFA Program for Writers in North Carolina. He was a successful board certified Texas lawyer and award winning poet when he closed down his law office in 2003 for life as an itinerant singer songwriter.

SUMMARY:Annual Dia de Los Muertos Community Altar and Celebration in Downtown Lockhart
DESCRIPTION:Local Non-Profit Feria de Culturas will be sponsoring their Annual Dia de Los Muertos Community Altar as part of First Friday festivities on November 1\, 2019. The celebration honors the lives of deceased loved ones by placing an altar adorned with pictures of the dearly departed\, their favorite foods\, sugar skulls\, along with candles and marigold flowers. The festival is not to be confused with Halloween. Dia de Los Muertos is not a day for ghosts and goblins\, rather a day to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have passed on. \nThis year\, Feria de Culturas is encouraging downtown businesses to participate in the event by displaying an altar of their own in their business. They can display a traditional altar honoring a deceased loved one\, or one displaying items sold in their business. If the business is a restaurant or bar\, they are being encouraged to feature a Dia de Los Muertos inspired dish or drink. \nThe entire community is encouraged to place a picture of a deceased loved one on the community altar which will be on display on the south end of the Caldwell County Courthouse on Market Street. Set up will begin on Friday November 1st at 3pm. \nFree pan de muerto and Mexican hot chocolate will be provided while supplies last. Pan de muerto is traditional sweet bread served on el Dia de Los Muertos. Also\, there will be face painting\, free crafts\, and a live performance by San Antonio based group THE CHIZME. THE CHIZME\, featuring Lockhart native Nicole Valdez\, gets the crowd moving with their style of cumbia\, rock en español\, and classic rock. You don’t want to miss out on this performance that will take place on the east end of the court house off of Main Street. The organization also hopes to add more entertainment to the evening’s lineup. The community is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and dancing shoes. This FREE FAMILY FRIENDLY event will be held from 5pm-10pm.
