SUMMARY:Annual Dia de Los Muertos Community Altar and Celebration in Downtown Lockhart
DESCRIPTION:Local Non-Profit Feria de Culturas will be sponsoring their Annual Dia de Los Muertos Community Altar as part of First Friday festivities on November 1\, 2019. The celebration honors the lives of deceased loved ones by placing an altar adorned with pictures of the dearly departed\, their favorite foods\, sugar skulls\, along with candles and marigold flowers. The festival is not to be confused with Halloween. Dia de Los Muertos is not a day for ghosts and goblins\, rather a day to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have passed on. \nThis year\, Feria de Culturas is encouraging downtown businesses to participate in the event by displaying an altar of their own in their business. They can display a traditional altar honoring a deceased loved one\, or one displaying items sold in their business. If the business is a restaurant or bar\, they are being encouraged to feature a Dia de Los Muertos inspired dish or drink. \nThe entire community is encouraged to place a picture of a deceased loved one on the community altar which will be on display on the south end of the Caldwell County Courthouse on Market Street. Set up will begin on Friday November 1st at 3pm. \nFree pan de muerto and Mexican hot chocolate will be provided while supplies last. Pan de muerto is traditional sweet bread served on el Dia de Los Muertos. Also\, there will be face painting\, free crafts\, and a live performance by San Antonio based group THE CHIZME. THE CHIZME\, featuring Lockhart native Nicole Valdez\, gets the crowd moving with their style of cumbia\, rock en español\, and classic rock. You don’t want to miss out on this performance that will take place on the east end of the court house off of Main Street. The organization also hopes to add more entertainment to the evening’s lineup. The community is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and dancing shoes. This FREE FAMILY FRIENDLY event will be held from 5pm-10pm.

DESCRIPTION:We invite you to participate in the Lockhart Veteran’s Day Parade\, Saturday\, November 9\, 2019. Presented by American Legion Post 41 and Hector Rangel Post Commander. Completed applications are due by November 1\, 2019. They will also be available the day of the Parade. Lineup will begin at 8 a.m. on Nov. 9. Check-in for lineup will take place at the 500 Block of Guadalupe Street and Plum St. The parade will step off promptly at 9:30 am. All entries must be registered and with liability waivers on file with the American Legion Post 41 and Hector Rangel (located on the application). Represent yourself\, any family member or friend who served in the Military in the parade. You can walk\, use your decorated vehicle or pulled trailer in the parade. DESCRIPTION:Ready\, Set….Gobble! Join us for a 1-mile or 5K run/walk to celebrate fall in the park! Don your athletic gear\, and come on down to Lockhart State Park! Our Turkey Trot will be a fun run/walk on the park golf course and park trails. There will be two distances to choose from: 1-mile or 5K (3.1 miles)\, which both start at 9:00am. This event is open to runners and walkers of all speeds and sizes\, along with their canine companions (on a leash\, please). The course is not ADA accessible\, but the 1-mile route is stroller-friendly. Prizes will be awarded to the first finishers. This event is rain or shine. Registration not required.
