SUMMARY:POSTPONED Old Settler’s Music Festival 2020
DESCRIPTION:Due to current ‘Stay Home Stay Safe’ orders and guidelines surrounding COVID-19\, this event has been postponed. \nOld Settler’s Music Festival is an annual music festival held since 1987. The festival dates for 2020 are April 16th to the 19th in Tilmon Texas\, just southeast of Lockhart\, Texas. As one of Central Texas’ signature music events\, the festival features americana\, roots\, folk\, acoustic jazz and blues\, bluegrass\, local favorites\, and award-winning artists from around the world. Camping\, arts and crafts\, food and drink are available. \nThe Old Settler’s Music Festival was first held in Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock\, Texas. After the park flooded during a festival weekend\, the organizers moved the festival first to Stone Mountain Events Center in Dripping Springs\, Texas\, and later to the Salt Lick BBQ Pavilion and Camp Ben McCulloch in Driftwood\, Texas. In 2018\, the festival moved to its forever home on 145 acres of rolling meadows and tree covered campgrounds. The new location is just a cd’s worth of listening from Austin\, TX. \nOld Settler’s already has been widely recognized for its contribution to Central Texas culture; with over 30 bands performing for 16\,000 roots-music fans each year\, it is considered among the major events that help the region sustain its status as the “live music capital of the world.” And now\, as it plants roots of its own on its new 145-acre property\, Old Settler’s cements its status as the sole roots music and camping festival in the Central Texas area. “OSMF has become an elite musical event without sacrificing the community vibe that built it.”

SUMMARY:14th Annual Lockhart Kiwanis 5K Stampede Goes Virtual
DESCRIPTION:‘Stay Home\, Stay Safe’ orders prohibit gatherings of any size\, but fear not – essential activities include outdoor activities like walking and running! Instead of having a physical run\, the 14th Annual Lockhart Kiwanis 5K Stampeded invites participants to a new virtual run to be held Thursday\, April 9 through Sunday\, April 12. Money raised through the 5K Stampede are used to fund scholarships to graduating seniors. Over the last 13 years\, Lockhart Kiwanis Club has given out over $120\,000 to more than 100 students\, and is committed to continuing its legacy. \nVisit the Lockhart Kiwanis Club Facebook page for more event information. \nHow It Works: \nThe Run (April 9-12): Yes\, you still run! We’ll have a window of days for you to complete your run. Be sure to record your time. Since the recommendations are that you keep 6 feet from another person\, you might choose to run by yourself\, or you might run a comfortable distance from your favorite running partner. You can run the course that we’ve already certified\, or run your favorite route. You can even do your run on a treadmill if you like. Your course just needs to be a 1K or 5K depending on if you registered for the Fun Run/Walk or the 5K Stampeded. Participants can also use the certified 5K course which can be viewed in the discussion comments of the Facebook event page. \nRegistration: Online registration will be open until midnight on Tuesday\, April 7. We will waive the late registration fee. 13 and older will be $25. 12 & under is $10 for the Stampede. The Fun Run will be $10 for all ages. Fees include a t-shirt and swag bag. Register using the Website link at the bottom of this page. \nTeams: You may add to your team to compete in the team challenge. Remember you need 7 people to qualify for this challenge. Registration for groups: $20 per person. \nThe Race: Your times will still be officially recorded! The tracking website will be open for entries beginning Thursday\, April 9 and will close at midnight on Sunday\, April 12. Once all times have been entered\, we will score the race just as normal and the results will appear the same as if all of us had run together. Submit your recorded run time using the link: https://www.racetecresults.com/Results.aspx?CId=119&RId=294 \nSwag and Packets: You will receive the swag bag\, t-shirt and bib by mail after the virtual run is closed. \nThe Awards: We will mail winners awards along with the swag bags and t-shirts. Team awards will be sent to the originator of the group. We are asking that you take a picture with your award and/or team and their award (when appropriate) and post to our Facebook page. \nContact Nicole Burnett @ 512-398-2421 or nburnett@goldenagehome.com for questions regarding registration.

SUMMARY:Lavender and Bluebonnet Festival
DESCRIPTION:Texas Lavender Association presents The Lavender & Bluebonnet Festival at Luling Lavender Fields. Lavender blooms at various times of the year depending on the species and location. Our first bloomers\, 400 Spanish Lavender plants\, will be in full bloom alongside Bluebonnets and many other native Texas wildflowers. Bring your camera! \nThere are small family-owned lavender farms across Texas and many of those growers will be here with their handmade natural lavender products. Meet them and learn how to find their products online and at local markets. \nEnjoy many artisan vendors\, music\, speakers\, and some great food truck cuisine. We are pet-friendly so long as pets are well-behaved and on a leash. \nSituated on 12 acres of a working cattle ranch\, the setting is serene and beautiful with fields of wildflowers and majestic old live oak trees. The location is also convenient\, right off I-10 at the Luling Buc-ees exit\, our entrance is across from Love’s Truck Stop. The parking lot is a pasture and it’s rocky\, but if you look closely you may find arrow heads and tools left by tribes that used to camp here to gather flint. \nParking/Entry tickets are $10 per car ($13.35 total with tax/fees)\, so we encourage everyone to fill up their cars with festival-goers! No outside parking is available. Parking/Entry tickets will be available at the gate for $12\, but we encourage you to buy in advance as space is limited and gates will be closed when filled. You don’t want to miss it! \nPlease follow our Facebook page Luling Lavender Fields to find out additional updates and information! \nVENDORS – interested in being a part of this festival? SUMMARY:Stories Under the Stars with Mark Jungers and Brock Zeman
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special evening under the stars inside the Martindale Social Hall\, featuring the musical storytelling talents of Mark Jungers and Brock Zeman! $10 at the door. BYOB\, bring a chair… \nAbout Mark Jungers \nIn life and in art\, Mark Jungers is a reality dealer. A trailblazing Americana singer\, songwriter and musician with By god sod busting roots\, Jungers lays out the perils\, the pitfalls and the pleasures of life in equal measure. Accompanied by a like-minded music-making crew\, Jungers uses a mixture of country\, folk\, rock and more to get that reality across with soul\, conviction and a solid backbeat.\nMore at http://markjungers.com/ \nAbout Brock Zeman \nWhen it comes to storytelling\, Brock Zeman is a master craftsman. The Canada-based singer-songwriter has spent the past 12 years carving and chiseling Americana soundscapes\, drawing from roots-rock and alternative country. But what separates Zeman from his contemporaries isn’t a willingness to speak truth – it’s his unwillingness to conform to the rules of Nashville and the traditional framework of genre. What gives Zeman’s stories force isn’t that he’s just singing a narrative – he’s living it…\nMore at http://www.brockzeman.com/

SUMMARY:Annual Dia de Los Muertos Community Altar and Celebration in Downtown Lockhart
DESCRIPTION:Local Non-Profit Feria de Culturas will be sponsoring their Annual Dia de Los Muertos Community Altar as part of First Friday festivities on November 1\, 2019. The celebration honors the lives of deceased loved ones by placing an altar adorned with pictures of the dearly departed\, their favorite foods\, sugar skulls\, along with candles and marigold flowers. The festival is not to be confused with Halloween. Dia de Los Muertos is not a day for ghosts and goblins\, rather a day to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have passed on. \nThis year\, Feria de Culturas is encouraging downtown businesses to participate in the event by displaying an altar of their own in their business. They can display a traditional altar honoring a deceased loved one\, or one displaying items sold in their business. If the business is a restaurant or bar\, they are being encouraged to feature a Dia de Los Muertos inspired dish or drink. \nThe entire community is encouraged to place a picture of a deceased loved one on the community altar which will be on display on the south end of the Caldwell County Courthouse on Market Street. Set up will begin on Friday November 1st at 3pm. \nFree pan de muerto and Mexican hot chocolate will be provided while supplies last. Pan de muerto is traditional sweet bread served on el Dia de Los Muertos. Also\, there will be face painting\, free crafts\, and a live performance by San Antonio based group THE CHIZME. THE CHIZME\, featuring Lockhart native Nicole Valdez\, gets the crowd moving with their style of cumbia\, rock en español\, and classic rock. You don’t want to miss out on this performance that will take place on the east end of the court house off of Main Street. The organization also hopes to add more entertainment to the evening’s lineup. The community is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and dancing shoes. This FREE FAMILY FRIENDLY event will be held from 5pm-10pm.

SUMMARY:16th Annual Speaking of the Dead “Night Ramblings in a Texas Graveyard”
DESCRIPTION:The Caldwell County Historical Commission is hosting their 16th Annual Speaking of the Dead “Night Ramblings in a Texas Graveyard” where costumed actors portray spirits from Caldwell County cemeteries. These guided tours are both educational and entertaining and sell-out early. Actors portray spirits of the past\, telling their stories in character. Tours will start at the main entrance of the Lockhart City Cemetery\, Friday evening\, October 25\, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday\, October 26. 20 people per tour with 9 tours each night from 6:30 to 9:10 p.m. \nTickets for $15 must be purchased in advance. Follow the Caldwell County Historical Commission Facebook for updates. Complimentary parking will be at Kreuz Market and under the overpass. The proceeds from this enlightening event benefit the Caldwell County Jail Museum. \nSpirits to be Portrayed \nRichard G. Head (1847-1906) \nFollowing the Civil War\, Texas found itself in a serious economic situation. It was soon determined that the cattle industry in Texas would be its salvation. Cattlemen began herding together thousands of wild Texas cattle to be driven northward to the railroads and shipped off to the northeast where they could be sold for a large profit. Richard Head was one of these Texas trail drivers. Head will be portrayed by Ray Chandler. \nEdward B. Coopwood (1863-1952) \nEdward Coopwood was a very prominent lawyer and banker here in Lockhart. He came to Texas in the latter part of the 19th century and became active in all the civic organizations of the community.   He was also an active part of the early Lockhart Volunteer Fire Department. He will tell us a little about what his life was like back then. Coopwood will be portrayed by Wayne Walther. \nCorinne C. Deviney (1901-1999) \nDuring the early 1900s a woman’s life was quite different from that of today. Women’s roles in society primarily centered around the family and home. However\, Corinne Deviney was her own person and did not fit the image of what was expected of an early 20th century woman. Deviney will be portrayed by Mary Lowrance. \nMilton S. Wilson (1923-1941) \nWe have many military veterans buried here in the Lockhart Cemetery. Some of these men and women died during the war and many came home to lead productive lives for many years. Milton Wilson was a young man who enlisted in the Navy but served for only a short time before his death. Wilson will be portrayed by Todd Blomerth. \nBlanche Lohman (1891-1987) \nMost towns are known for having their “colorful” and “unforgettable” characters in their communities. Blanche Lohman came to Lockhart before she was a year old. She grew up as a prominent merchant and became one of the most beloved citizens in town. She lived a long and exciting life. Her love of people and her hometown\, along with her outgoing personality\, made her a most remarkable and memorable character. Lohman will be portrayed by Carol Ohlendorf. \nLeonidas M. Camp (1832-1926) and May Camp (1872-1961) \nLeonidas M. Camp served in the Civil War from Mississippi. He survived many of the bloodiest battles fought in that war and later moved west and settled here in Lockhart. He will tell us about the campaigns in which he fought.   Buried next to Mr. Camp is one of his daughters who became one of the most well-known citizens of Lockhart. May Camp was a quiet young woman who became the librarian for the Dr. Eugene Clark Library. She served in that position for a longer period than any other librarian in Lockhart. She was responsible for promoting education and culture through her job that extended through World War I\, the Great Depression and much of World War II. Leonidas will be portrayed by Ray Sanders and May will be portrayed by Julie Ohlendorf.
