Hilmer Harold Schuelke
Hilmer Harold Schuelke, 78, a long-time resident of Corpus Christi died March 13, 2007 in a local hospital. Harold was born near Niederwald, Texas in Hays County on Jan. 7, 1929. He was the fifth child of six siblings born to Walter Earl and Ella Braune Schuelke. He graduated from Lockhart High School in 1947 where he and his brother “Sam” were co-captains of the bi-district
championship football team.
Harold attended Texas A & M University and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force when he graduated in June of 1951. During the Korean War, Harold was a Special Weapons Supply Officer, responsible for supervising the loading and unloading of atomic bombs into planes for practice runs. At the end of the war, Harold began working for Borden, Inc., and retired in 1991 after 38 years of service.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Fay Schubert Schuelke; an infant son, Charles Earl; his younger brother, Leroy Otto “Sam” Schuelke; and his parents, Walter and Ella Schuelke.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Schuelke Whitlock and husband Bill of Dublin, Ohio; his grandson, William Carl Whitlock of Raleigh, N.C.; and his granddaughter, Kathryn Fay Whitlock of Dublin, Ohio. Also surviving are his brothers, Walter Earl Schuelke and Leonard Carl Schuelke and wife LaMerle, of all Lockhart; and sisters, Stella Barrington and husband Bill of Belton and Gladys Griffin and husband George of Austin; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was March 16, 2007, at St. Mark”s Lutheran Church. Interment was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Corpus Christi.
