The holiday season at the Gaslight-Baker Theatre (GBT) began with the return of Cuento Navideño, a spirited adaptation of A Christmas Carol directed by Ava Garcia and generously sponsored by Doug and Shari Foster. Performances began last weekend with a second weekend of shows on December 19 and December 20 at 7:30 p.m., and December 21 at 2:00 p.m.
The theatre continues to welcome volunteers to assist with box office and concessions, offering those willing to lend a hand the chance to enjoy the show at no cost while supporting the community’s artistic endeavors.
As the year draws to a close, GBT invites aspiring performers of all ages to discover their creativity through classes designed to build confidence and imagination. These sessions begin in January and have become a popular choice for families seeking meaningful Christmas gifts that inspire growth and expression.
Hamlet, directed by A. Jason Jones, opens the 2026 calendar from January 30 to February 15. Shortly after, Eric Beck directs The Minutes by Tracy Letts, scheduled for February 20 through March 8. The spring continues with the lively musical The Trail to Oregon, directed by Mitchell Oden, running March 27 to April 4. The Giver, adapted by Eric Coble from Lois Lowry’s award-winning novel and directed by Tam Francis, follows from April 24 to May 3. Later in May, Liza McCarthy brings Vaudeville to the stage from May 28 to 31.
Summer brings a sweeping musical experience with Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame, directed by Doug DeGirolamo, playing July 10 through August 2. Autumn opens with New York by David Rimmer, directed by Shaela Leggett-Bresset with performances from September 11 to 13. Soon after, Beth James leads the ensemble cast of Clue: On Stage, running September 25 through October 11. The year concludes with Tysha Calhoun directing the festive and lighthearted The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderthon, scheduled December 4 through 20.
The Gaslight-Baker Theatre continues to emphasize community engagement, inviting anyone with interest or passion to become more involved. Volunteers contribute to every facet of production, from concessions and set building to acting, directing, technical work, and costuming. Donations remain essential to sustaining the performing arts in Central Texas, ensuring that both new and seasoned artists have a stage on which to shine. Those wishing to explore acting opportunities may join the audition email list to receive upcoming announcements. Businesses throughout the region also have the chance to advertise with GBT, reaching thousands of patrons who attend performances each year.
In expressing gratitude, the theatre extends heartfelt appreciation to all who support its mission, whether through attendance, volunteer efforts, or artistic contributions. Even those unable to give financially are reminded that their presence and participation are deeply valued. The GBT board offers warm wishes for health and happiness in the coming season, echoing the words of board president Jason Jones: “Tell stories! Light lamps!”
