Caldwell County Sheriff Daniel Law announced early this week that an inmate was taken from the Caldwell County Jail by EMS on Sunday morning and later died.
Sarah Trevino, 28, of Luling, was brought into Caldwell County Jail around 3:55 a.m. on Sunday morning charged with Public Intoxication, according to Sgt. Paul Cowan
, the Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer. Trevino had apparently been a passenger in a vehicle stopped for suspicion of driving while intoxicated on Highway 183 near Jack-in-the-Box.
Later Sunday morning, around 9:55 a.m., Trevino was found in her holding cell, unconscious and “possibly not breathing.” EMS was alerted, and Trevino was taken to Central Texas Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased.
Law said the Sheriff’s Office is investigating the situation, assisted by the Texas Rangers and the Caldwell County District Attorney’s office.
Trevino’s body was taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy on Monday. Cowan said results of the autopsy would not be available for two to three weeks.
