Ismael Garcia, Sr.
Ismael Vasquez Garcia, Sr., 66, of Lockhart, went to be with our Lord on Sunday Feb. 20, 2011. Ismael, called “Ismo” by friends and family, passed after an extended battle with an illness.
Ismael is preceded in death by his mother, Irene Vasquez Garcia, and a son, Ismael Garcia, Jr.
Ismael will be missed tremendously by his loving companion of 15 years, Ester, and her
family; his daughter, Grace Lisa Soliz and husband, Oscar; son, Stephen Villalobos Garcia and wife, Linda; his stepdaughter, Debbie Ortiz; his “close-as-a-daughter,” Lisa Britton; and their mother Leonor Garcia Villescaz. Ismael also leaves his grandchildren: Bradley Ray Garcia, Stephen Joshua Garcia, Heather Nicole Hutchins and her spouse, Jeff, Cecilia and Ernesto Soliz, Keith and Joshua Verdecanna; great-grandchildren: Izzabelle Autumn Hutchins, Isaac Edward Verdecanna, and Gabriel and Allison Ortiz. Ismael leaves many close relatives: an aunt and uncle, cousins, nephews and many other family members too numerous to name. Ismael will also be missed by many friends and coworkers.
Ismael worked for 17 years with Glastron Boat Company in Austin, then he worked many years with the past school bus system in Lockhart (Durham Transportation). Ismael worked for the past 10 years as superintendent for the San Marcos area CARTS system, and built his foundation on “letting his work speak for him.”
Ismael was a man of few words, and was dedicated to his work and family. He enjoyed playing golf, playing bingo, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
The family received friends on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 5 p.m., with Rosary Service held at 7 p.m., and again on Wednesday, Feb 23. 5 p.m. with Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Funeral Service was scheduled on Thursday morning at 10 a.m., with burial following to St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lockhart.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Oscar Soliz, Leroy Schaefer, Jr., James Mendez, Fernando Mendez, Jr., Leslie Butler and Donald Maher. Honorary pallbearers named were Zeke Vela and Mario Rodriguez.
