JV, Freshman Lady Lions deal defeats to Smithville
JV vs. Smithville
25-13, 25-15
The Lady Lion J.V. volleyball team kicked off the 2006 season last week in Smithville with a win.
Chelsy Martinez would start the game off on serve with 5 consecutive points. Smithville fought their way back into the match and tied the score at 9 apiece.
Heather Domel gave the momentum back to the Lady Lions with 3 servi
ce points in a row. Cecilya Smith had 2 kills late in the match and Jennifer Price served out the last four points. The Lady Lions went on to win the first game 25-13.
“We really wanted to set the tone early and I think the girls stepped up,” stated Coach Johnston.
The second game was a mirror image of the first. Both teams battled back and forth. Smithville closed the gap to 7-8, and then the Lady Lions called a time out to regroup.
Lockhart then ran off 4 points in a row to take a 12-8 lead. The Lady Lions broke serve quickly and Shelby Ohlendorf served another four straight points for the Lady Lions. Lockhart took a commanding 19-10 lead.
Sydney Porter, Jessica Guerra, Tabitha Strawn and Julia Boykin contributed to the victory with good passing, net play and teamwork. The Lady Lions won the second game 25-15 to close out the match.
Freshman vs. Smithville
25-22, 22-25, 25-23
The Lady Lion Freshman won a three-game thriller on Aug. 15 in Smithville. Scores were 25-22, 22-25 and 25-23.
The Lady Lion Freshman got off to a good start with good sets from Jamie Schulle and Jordyn Platt. Desiree Roland had some incredible kills working from the middle. The Lady Lions also received some good back row passing from Jesi Greer and Bianca Juarez.
“It was an awesome job to come back after losing the second game and win a close third to close out the match on the road,” stated Coach Davis.
Other players contributing to the victory were Amanda Wright, Desirea Winn, Lauren Moore, Alison Clark, Cortney Ferris, Jocelyn Coleman, Brittani Torres, Megan Corbitt, Kelsey Daily and Audrey Aguilar.
