Kenneth Taylor
Kenneth Hoyt Taylor, known to most as “Tommy,” went to be with his Lord on Oct. 28, 2013. Tommy died of heart failure at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
He was born June 19, 1941, in Luling, Texas. He was the son of Hoyt and Mary Shely Taylor, of Tilmon. He spent his youth in Caldwell County. He graduated in 1959 from Lockhart High School where he received
the honors of being All School Favorite, captain of the football team, and an outstanding track star.
After graduation he lived and worked in Austin, then moved to Uvalde, Texas, the hometown of his mother. Tommy joined the Navy, served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in January 1967.
He then went to work for Texas Industrial in sales and management and retired in 1999 after 32 years of service. The Mayor of Uvalde presented Tommy with the Key to the City upon his retirement. He spent the last six years living in the Carzalia Valley in Columbus, N.M.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents and uncle, Lloyd Taylor.
He is survived by his daughter, Kena Lee Johnson (James) and her children, children Kalee, TJ and Walker, of Columbus, N. M.; son, Tommy Lloyd Taylor, of Rocksprings; stepson, Lance Bain, of Devine, and stepdaughter, Carla Bain; brothers: Larry Taylor, Don Benton and Alton Taylor; nephew, Ashley Tayor (Pam); niece Starr Taylor Neutze (Tad) and numerous family and friends.
His infectious laugh and free spirit will be missed by all that knew him.
A memorial service was planned at Rushing Estes Knowles, in Uvalde, on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, beginning at 2 p.m. Honorary pallbearers chosen were Jerry Voigt, Ray Scott, George Rodriguez, Ernest Hinojosa, Roland Reyes, Donald Jeffrey, Bill Roberts and Rudy Schroeder.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
