Lady Lions charge ahead, take down Unicorns, Cardinals

The Lady Lions have been unstoppable lately, and they show no signs of slowing down. They beat the Del Valle Lady Cardinals 7-4 on Friday, April 4 at an away game after defeating the New Braunfels Lady Unicorns 6-4 at home on Tuesday, April 1.
If the Lady Lions continue on their path of success, a playoff appearance seems cert
ain in their future. The support of their community will surely help make that dream a reality.
Lockhart vs. Del Valle
The Lady Lions held on to second place in district by taking down the Del Valle Lady Cardinals 7-4 on Friday night. They scored one run in the first and third innings just to warm up. Three runs were added in the fifth and two final runs came in the seventh.
Lockhart committed several crucial errors in the sixth and seventh innings allowing the Lady Cardinals to score their four runs.
Taylor Boedecker and Jamie Schulle Pitched for the Lady Lions. Boedecker completed three innings and Schulle came in as a relief for the save.
Janie Juarez was 2-3 with an RBI; Schulle was 2-4; Chelsy Martinez was 2-3 with a double; Zaida Hager was 2-4 with two RBIs; Amanda Capello had a double, a sacrifice fly and two RBIs; and Brandy Stacks and Veronica Escobedo each had a single.

The Lady Lions defeated the Lady Unicorns 6-4 on Tuesday, April 1.
The Lady Lions did not score a run until the second inning, when they turned up the heat and scored two runs. They added another run in the fifth and three in the sixth.
It was in the second inning that Juarez reached first base on a single to set herself up for Schulle, who hit a triple to right center field sending Juarez home.
Juarez got on first again in the fifth, with a single, but was tagged out at second base after a fielder’s choice from Schulle.
Martinez hit a single. Hager hit a single and an RBI.
With the score at 3-2 in Lockhart’s favor, the Lady Lions needed to increase their lead, so Stacks, Escobedo and Schulle each hit a single to load the bases. Martinez whacked the ball out to left center for a triple, clearing the bases and securing a 6-2 lead.
The Lady Unicorns scored one run in each of the sixth and seventh but could not bounce back from the deficit.
Boedecker went the distance with her pitching, striking out eight Lady Unicorns on the night.
Escobedo was 2-4; Juarez was 3-4; Schulle was 3-4 with an RBI and three runs scored; Martinez was 2-4 with a triple and four RBIs; Hager was 2-4 with an RBI; and Kassie Gaddis was 2-3. Stacks, Boedecker and Capello each added a single.
The Lady Lions faced the Hays Lady Rebels at Kyle on Tuesday, April 8, and will face district rival and third-ranked New Braunfels Canyon on Friday, April 11 at the Lady Lion Field. Check next week’s Post-Register for scores and highklights.
