The Lockhart Lady Lions closed their season on a high note this year, defeating the Clemens Lady Buffaloes 25-22, 19-25, 25-20 and 25-15 at the Lions Den Gym on Friday, Oct. 19 to seal a 19-17 record, a place in the district and an all-around winning season.
“This is one of the most enjoyable, if not the most enjoyable seaso
n I have ever coached,” Head Volleyball Coach Melinda Kirst said. “The team and parents and community have welcomed me as a coach. The girls showed true grit and determination winning the last three out of four games to clinch a winning season in such a tough district.”
The stat leaders in the last game against Clemens were (in alphabetical order) Camille Burrhus-Clay with six kills; Jenee Burrhus-Clay with three aces, seven kills and five digs; Mariah Carter with eight kills; Jessica Guerra with 15 assists; Shelby Heinrichs with four digs; Brianna Henninkamp with 25 digs; Ashley Moore with six digs; Meredith Moore with two kills; Natalie Raemsch with three kills and three blocks; Cecilya Smith with four kills; and Kelly Witte with two aces, 14 kills, 15 assists, four blocks and four digs.
Lady Lions gave an outstanding effort throughout the entire season. Their perseverance and positive attitude throughout the season set a fine example for the Junior Varsity and Freshman Lady Lions teams. They are ladies, through and through.
“The fourth, fifth and sixth place teams in this district can win a lot of other districts in UIL including 5A districts,” Kirst said. “I would like to congratulate the girls on a job well done and wish the seniors good luck in their futures.”
See you next season!
