The Lady Lions traveled to Del Valle to face the Lady Cardinals on Friday, Feb. 13, and defeated them 3-0 in a crucial district match up.
“Lockhart needed a victory to move in front of Del Valle for a third place district standing,” Coach Tim Bayliss said. “The Lady Lions came out strong from kickoff, dominating posse
ssion and the pace of the game.”
Junior Adela Nino made the first and only goal in the first half for the Lady Lions. Senior Meredith Moore assisted her, ending the first half at 1-0.
The Lady Lions refused to let up in the second half. Freshman Cindy Partida added a second goal and minutes later, sophomore Kasara Bothell kicked the third and final goal of the game into the back of the net.
“Goalie Kelsie Briscoe made several crucial stops to keep Del Valle off the scoreboard in the second half,” Bayliss said. “She tallied a total of eight saves during the match to preserve the shut-out.”
The Lady Lions ended the evening with a 3-0 victory. Currently, the Lady Lions have a 2-2-1-district record and a 7-7-1 overall record.
“Christina Knudsen and Heather Schulle displayed outstanding effort and skill in the Lady Lions’ victory,” Bayliss said.
The Lady Lions hosted the Giddings Lady Buffaloes at Lion Stadium on Tuesday, Feb 24 and will travel to Taylor to face the Lady Ducks on Friday, Feb. 27. Check next week’s Post-Register for scores and highlights.
