The Lady Lions went up against what proved to be a most formidable opponent when they played the Lake Travis Lady Cavaliers and lost 7-1 at the Toney Burger Stadium in Austin, last Friday, March 23.
It was obvious after 30 minutes of playing that the Lady Lions were wearing themselves out trying to keep up with the Lady Cavali
ers. The Lake Travis team ran all over the field like gazelles without seeming to break a sweat while Lockhart started slowing down a bit during the first half of the match. Lockhart was in over their heads when they started to get too tired to keep up. Lake Travis, on the other hand, just kept on kicking all the way to the goal time after time. One goal became two goals. Two goals became three goals. Three goals became four goals. Four goals became… you get the picture.
The Lady Cavaliers were relentlessly fierce and determined to win no matter how far ahead they got. They were playing as if the game was a tiebreaker all the way to the end.
To their credit, the Lady Lions tried. They really did try to score more than one goal. It just wasn”t their night and the bittersweet taste of a playoff loss was tough medicine to swallow. There were some flashes of brilliant moves and plays but none were great enough to produce a scoring goal after the first and only goal by Brianna Hinnenkamp, who could not have made her goal without the Ashley Simon assist.
The night grew dark for the Lady Lions and try as they might, they could not turn the momentum around at any point. The game and the night belonged to the Lady Cavaliers entirely.
Congratulations go out to all the Lady Lions for a great season.
