The Lockhart Lions closed out their Thursday night scrimmage at Elgin with a performance that offered both encouraging progress and valuable lessons as the team moves closer to the regular season.
The freshman squad once again demonstrated its potential, showcasing the talent coaches have praised throughout camp. Head Coach Maldonado stressed that the group’s next step will be finding consistency and maintaining a daily work ethic to maximize their ability fully.
The junior varsity team delivered one of the brightest highlights of the night. With sharper execution and greater effort compared to the previous week, the JV squad proved the coaching staff’s belief that when they play with confidence, they can perform at a high level.
For the varsity Lions, penalties presented challenges during the scrimmage.
Coach Maldonado acknowledged the need for more discipline, taking personal responsibility for strengthening accountability within the program. He emphasized the importance of using scrimmages to work out mistakes and prepare for the games that matter in the standings.
“This is why we scrimmage,” Maldonado said. “Our challenge is to view Thursday as a chance for us, as a program, to grow. Now we turn our focus toward Week 1 against a solid program in Victoria West.”
With the home opener set for this Friday night, the Lions will look to carry momentum into their season debut and sharpen their play against a tough opponent.
