The Lockhart Little League senior boys division won the Texas District 31 Championship by defeating Seguin, 10-4, in their final game on Monday, July 11.
On Wednesday, July 6, Lockhart matched up against Yoakum for their first game of the tournament. It was a close game, but Lockhart pulled out a 6-5 win.

d eighth innings, the score was tied 5-5. The winning run was made by Dennis Ortiz in the ninth inning.
Ortiz had two RBI’s, while Butler and Schulle each had one RBI.
Michael Schulle led Lockhart’s defense again with 18 strikeouts during the nine-inning game.
The victory advanced Lockhart on the bracket, which set them up against Seguin.
On Friday, July 8, Lockhart was defeated 5-2 by Seguin.
Contributing to Lockhart’s two points were Ortiz and Steven Crider.
Their defeat sent them to the loser’s bracket where they had to play Yoakum one last time.
Lockhart proved themselves again in their match up against Yoakum as they walked away with a 1-0 victory.
The game was a war between pitchers as both teams were scoreless at the end of the fifth inning.
With Lockhart being the last at bat, Ortiz steps up to the plate to prove that he is an offensive threat. As the fourth pitch whirls across the plate, he sends it over the fence giving Lockhart their first and last run of the game.
In the seventh inning, Lockhart’s tight defense ends the game with Kody Skelton catching a fly ball, Josh Hazelett making an out at second base and Schulle striking out the last batter.
The 1-0 victory advanced Lockhart to another game against Seguin. With Seguin being undefeated, Lockhart had to beat them twice to win the championship.
Lockhart stepped up to the challenge and proved they were the better team by winning, 9-5.
Runs were made for Lockhart by Casey Butler with two, Ortiz with three, Skelton with one, Schulle with two and Jordan Delgado with one.
Now Lockhart had to defeat Seguin in one more game to claim the championship title.
In the first inning, Lockhart scored two runs after Hazelett made a hit to the fence past Seguin’s third baseman. His hit brought home Skelton and Schulle.
Lockhart gains another three runs in the second inning from Ortiz’s home run. Brandon Moreno and Marcos Officer were brought home by Ortiz’s strong hit.
With Seguin trailing by five runs, Lockhart’s defense lets up and allows Seguin to score two runs in the third inning. However, Lockhart responds to Seguin’s runs with another run by Ortiz stealing home plate during the fourth inning.
After a quick fifth inning, Lockhart gives up a run in the sixth inning, but gains four runs making the score 10-4. Scoring for Lockhart were Butler and Officer, with Crider’s RBI bringing home Schulle and Hazelett.
Leading Lockhart’s defense was Schulle at the mound with 13 strikeouts total.
Lockhart’s teammates include Michael Schulle, Dennis Ortiz, Josh Hazelett, Kody Skelton, Casey Butler, Marcos Officer, Trey Bush, Jordan Delgado, Clayton Shafer, Brandon Moreno, and Steven Crider. They are sponsored by Hazelett Cattle.
Lockhart’s path to the championship was a long hard-fought battle with two games against Seguin and two games versus Yoakum.
Next, Lockhart’s senior boys league will travel to Richmond, Texas, to play in the Sectional Tournament. They will play at George Park located at 2185 Collins Road. The first game will be on Saturday, July 16, at 8 p.m.
