The Lockhart High School Lions battled hard but fell to the Leander Lions last week, 55-38. The game, which was part of district play, showcased the growing strength of the Lockhart team despite the tough result.
Leander, a perennial powerhouse in the district over the last two years, proved to be a formidable opponent once again. Lockhart struggled in the first quarter, falling behind early, which set the tone for the rest of the game. However, Coach Collin Hart was pleased with how the team fought back after the tough start.
“We had a rough first quarter, but the guys showed a lot of heart to keep competing,” Hart said. “Leander is always a tough team, but we have a lot to build on from this game.”
Despite the loss, Lockhart had some strong individual performances. Senior Jordan Ortiz led the team with 11 points, while fellow senior Dareon Loggins added 10 points. Junior DJ Anthony also contributed with 7 points, showing his growing role in the team’s offensive play.
“We’ve got a lot of season left, and if we keep playing like this, I know we can turn things around,” Ortiz said.
