Lockhart Youth Soccer Association Kicks off Fall Season at New Complex
The Lockhart Youth Soccer Association, (LYSA) a 26-year old volunteer organization who provides recreational soccer opportunities for the youth of Caldwell County is pleased to announce that the New Maple Street Sports Complex, which was a joint collaborative effort between the City of Lockhart and

the Texas Parks and Wildlife Recreational Grants Funding program is now a viable location for league play.
Several donors assisted the City of Lockhart with raising matching funds to get the Sports Complex grant approved and completed. These donors, solicited by LYSA will be honored with a permanent plaque that is to be installed on the wall of the complex concession stand.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Lockhart Mayor James Bertram, LYSA President Ed Theriot, and other dignitaries took place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10. Each of the donors, as well as Parks Director Bernie Rangell, other city officials, TPWD Grants Supervisor Tim Hogsett, LYSA Board Members, and all citizens of Lockhart were invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and to help celebrate the beautiful new facilities for fall leagues.
There were approximately 14 games scheduled on three playing fields beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Approximately 250 players from Lockhart, Luling, and surrounding areas are registered to play in this year”s fall leagues. Players range in age from 4 years to 17 years of age. Coaches are, for the most part, parents and league volunteers. Each adult volunteer with LYSA is required to pass a national background safety check through the KidSafe program.
With the new fields available, it is anticipated that Lockhart may begin to bid to host recreational tournaments, which will bring in additional economic impact to the community. LYSA utilizes local suppliers whenever possible for all services related to the league, including fundraisers, photographers, uniforms, and trophies.
LYSA board members are: President, Ed Theriot; Vice President, Jennifer Rodriguez; Secretary, Andrea Theriot; Treasurer, Christine Smith; Registrar, Eileen Larkin; Uniforms, Rick Alonzo; Fields Directors Johnny Miranda and Lorenzo Ramirez; and Board Members at Large, Billy Bertram, Chip Pittman, and Mario Estrada. LYSA runs under the sanctioning rules and regulations governed by the Capital Area Youth Soccer Association and the South Texas Youth Soccer Association.
