Margaret Reeder
March 18, 1936-February 12, 2025

Margaret Reeder, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, was peacefully called home by our Heavenly Father on February 12, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born in Prattville, Alabama, on March 18, 1936, Margaret’s journey in life began with a love story that would span decades. She met James Reeder at Maxwell Air Force Base, and they were married in November 1954. As an Air Force wife, Margaret’s life was filled with adventure, as she and James were stationed across the country in states such as California, Arizona, Alabama, North Carolina, and Florida, with overseas assignments in Japan and Okinawa. Ultimately, they settled in Austin, where they created a home filled with love and memories.
Throughout her life, Margaret embraced a variety of hobbies. She was an avid bowler, participating in numerous leagues, and she found joy in painting, ceramics, and above all, spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She treasured those moments more than anything. Margaret also dedicated her time and energy to volunteering, contributing to schools in Lockhart and her church community.
Margaret’s professional career spanned 20 years with the Bank of Austin, where she retired in 1992. During her tenure, she witnessed the bank’s transformation, as it changed names five times before becoming Bank of America. After retirement, she and her husband traveled often, exploring new places and creating lasting memories.
Margaret is lovingly remembered by her son, James Reeder Jr. (Susan); daughter, Debbie Vogel (Bobby); brothers, Wayne Nix of Birmingham, AL, and John Nix of Bowling Green, KY; along with her eight grandchildren: Tiffany Alverson (John), Jamie Darity (Tommy), Carla Olivarez (Cesar), Donald Pannell, Krissy Rhodes (Dale), Michelle Sanchez (Six), James Clarence Vogel, and Colton Vogel (LeAndra). She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren: Tanner, Teagan, Peyton, Blakely, T.W., Easton, Cameron, Adrian, Kylie, Aiden, Alli, Andrew, Ali and one on the way, Baby Vogel arriving May 2025.
Margaret was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 54 years, James Reeder; daughter, Pamela Galbreath; brothers, J.C. Nix and Ralph Nix; and her loving parents, Ottis and Josephine Nix.
The family received friends and family on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 5-6 PM at McCurdy Funeral Home. The funeral service began at 2PM on Monday, February 17th also at McCurdy Funeral Home with burial at the Lockhart City Cemetery.
