Mary Jeanne Bowers
Mary Jeanne (Andrews) Bowers, formerly of Lockhart, was born April 26, 1932, in Dallas, Texas, and passed away April 13, 2011. She was the daughter of Bolivar Coleman Andrews and Nan Dickinson Andrews.
Jeanne is survived by two children, William Gary Bowers, of Dripping Springs, and Brenda Nan (Bowers) Van Scyoc, of Katy; a brother, Bolivar Coleman Andrews, of Houston; and t
hree grandchildren, Kimberley, Tyler Dillon, and Mary. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Billy Joe Bowers.
Jeanne grew up on a farm near Pharr, Texas, and enjoyed horseback riding, barrel racing, and the sweet smell of citrus orchards. She obtained a degree in home economics from Texas State University and soon thereafter married Bill, her husband of 36 years. She taught home economics in Lockhart and Victoria secondary schools and inspired many talented cooks.
A meal at Jeanne’s place was always an adventure. She enjoyed cross-stitch and had a passion to tend and care for all kinds of animals. She liked serving her community and neighbors, with particular passion for Christ’s Kitchen in Victoria, serving needy families and providing uplifting conversation. Jeanne was a member of the Episcopal Church.
Friends and family were invited to attend the memorial service, which was held Saturday, April 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Eeds Funeral Home in Lockhart. Burial was held in the Lockhart Municipal Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to support breast cancer research through Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
