Norma Jean Mitchell
Norma Jean Mitchell was born on Nov. 13, 1954, to the late Colesia Bell Shannon and James Alexander. She was called to rest on Sunday, Dec . 6, 2009 at the age of 55.
She received her formal education in Lockhart, Texas, and graduated from Lockhart High in 1973. She went on to receive her Medication Aide Certification and worked at the Golden Age Home for over 20 year
s. She also worked at the Austin State School as a Mental Health Aide before she retired to Houston in 2002.
Those who knew her may remember her as Norma Jean Alexander, Norma Jean Wright, or “Norma Jean;” however, she will forever be remembered for her caring heart, loving personality, and that contagious laugh.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Myrtle Clay.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Rickey Mitchell, of Baytown, Texas; two daughters, Tamika Alexander, of Lockhart, Texas and Monique Wright, of Houston, Texas; two stepchildren, Rickey Tyrone Mitchell and Felicia Mitchell ,of Hallettsville, Texas; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Ada Valagene, of El Centro; one brother, Bobby Shannon, of Augusta, Ga.; nieces, nephews and host of relatives and friends.
A wake was held at Eeds Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, from 6 – 8 p.m. with family and friends in attendance. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church in Lockhart at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 12.
