Phyllis J. Mills

Phyllis J. Mills departed this life peacefully on Aug. 16, 2011. She was born Dec. 31, 1930, to Lawrence Guy and Alice (Pike) Atwell in Woodward, Okla.

Phyllis and Bennie Mills, Jr., married on Feb. 5, 1951, in Clovis, N.M. Phyllis worked in retail and management positions throughout her life but her biggest accomplishment was raising three children while following her husba

nd, an Air Force NCO, all over the world.

Being the wife of a service man was not an easy task; however, Phyllis was always there by his side through worldwide moves and taking care of the home. She was a strong, spirited and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a zest for living, life and a sense of humor that brought joy to those around her.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bennie Mills; and their oldest grandson, Daniel.

She is survived by her children Kenneth D. Mills and wife, Betty, of Virginia, Deana Thiem, of Austin, and Rhia Espinoza and husband, Robert, of Lockhart; grandchildren, Shannon Kolvaski and husband, Adam, Hope Mills, Dawn Thiem and David Thiem and wife, Shelly, Kris Crabill, Ashley Crabill and Zachary Espinoza; and one great-granddaughter.

A Celebration of Phyllis’ life was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at McCurdy Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Elizabeth P. Mills, pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Richmond, Va., officiating.
