Plenty of passion, not enough time

In their first home performance since the start of District play, the Lady Lions made a soggy start in the Lion’s Den on Friday night. Rainy weather and a football bye week created a “perfect storm” for sports fans who packed the Den to watch the Lady Lions take on the Lady Antlers of Kerrville Tivy.

As the night progressed, the louder the crowd cheered, the harder the team played, lobbing shot after shot across the net, engaging in strong, savvy play against Kerrville’s fast, powerful hitters.

At the end of the night, though, all the passion in the place could not give the Lady Lions the time they needed to come back from a two-game deficit, falling to Tivy (17-25), (10-25) and (15-25).

Alexandra Howard an offensive and defensive leader on the night, putting up six kills, five digs, four assists and a block. Reagan Voigt logged five kills, three digs and half a block. Madilyn Shaw had three kills and seven digs. Cassidy Schmidt had two kills, 11 assists and seven digs, and Jasmine Foroughi and Macy Riddle had one kill each. Riddle also logged 2.5 blocks and one assist, while Foroughi had one dig.

Despite some communication problems early in the match, the Lady Lions seemed to iron out their problems and maintain focus, but simply ran out of time to stage a Game Three Rally.

The team had a similar experience last week when they faced off with the Hays Rebels, falling in three but fighting to stay competitive throughout the night.

Stat leaders against Hays were: Hoskins with two aces; Foroughi and Voigt with four kills each; Schmidt with 13 assists and 10 digs; and Tassandra McClelland with one block.

The Lady Lions will return to the Lion’s Den on Friday night as they continue District play against the Seguin Lady Matadors. Because Friday night is Homecoming, the Varsity Lady Lions will play first at 5:30 p.m., followed by the JV and Freshman games.

JV Lady Lions

The Lady Lions played a great game against Kerrville Tivy on Friday night but fell short 20-25 and 10-25. Destinee Brown had three kills. Lauren Yanez had one ace and two digs; Taylor Foroughi had one ace and two assists; Gloria Horton had two kills and two digs; Olivia Flores recorded one ace; and Courtney Rotzler had eight digs.

The Lady Lions also dropped a tough game to a very talented Hays team 4-25, 17-25. Destinee Brown had three kills. Gloria Horton had two assists. Courtney Rotzler had four digs.

Freshman Lady Lions

The Freshman Lady Lions also struggled this week, falling in two to Hays, and then falling in three to Kerrville.
