Reba Faye Galloway Jeffrey, McMahan”s oldest resident, died May 31, 2006, at age 95.
Reba was born March 12, 1911, in a covered wagon in Comanche County, Texas. The daughter of Able and Bennita (Etta) Blundell Galloway, she grew up in the farming communities of early Texas. She saw and experienced Texas growth from the primitive lifestyle of early Texas through the mod

ern era.
She married Luther Jeffrey on Nov. 12, 1932, and they lived in the McMahan area until Luther died in 1978.
After that, Reba moved to Houston with her son Roy while he started and opened a barbeque restaurant there. She worked every day cooking and serving in the restaurant until Roy returned to McMahan in 1990. When Roy opened another restaurant in the old general store in McMahan, Reba continued working there, making her traditional iced tea, potato salad, beans, pies and assorted other side dishes. She continued these labors until shortly before her death.
Reba is remembered for having a good soul, and being always willing to lend a helping hand when work had to be done. Her death marks the end of an era in McMahan.
Reba was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Jeffrey, and her sister Frances Holter. She is survived by her son Roy Jeffrey and his wife Grace; her sister Maye Starr; and her brother A.B. Galloway. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
