Robert Smith, Jr.
Robert Mark Smith, Jr. of Smithville, Texas, died on Feb. 1, 2014, at the age of 77.
Robert was born on Nov. 15, 1936, to Laura Baumann Smith and Robert Mark Smith, Sr., in Fredericksburg, Texas. He graduated from Comfort High school in 1954. He was baptized into the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jourdanton, Texas on Oct. 1, 1957. Shortly thereafter, Robert married Carol
yn Alice Boehm on June 1, 1958, in that same church and they were happily married for 55 years. They have been members of Grace Lutheran Church in Smithville since 1963.
After graduating high school, he first worked in the oil fields until 1964. He then became an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance until 1977. During this time, he established Smith Supply Company in Smithville, Texas in 1968, with the help of Carolyn and their two sons. Robert served as alderman and mayor pro tem for the Smithville city council for numerous years. Robert was a lifelong rancher, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Robert is preceded in death by parents, Laura Baumann Smith and Robert Mark Smith, Sr., and one daughter.
He is survived by wife, Carolyn Boehm Smith; two sons, Robert Mark Smith, III, and wife Bobbie, of Smithville, and Russell Louis Smith and wife, Patricia, of San Marcos; his grandchildren Devon Behrens and husband, Chris, Derek Smith and wife, Kaila, Logan Smith, Kelsea Smith and Trevor Smith. He is also survived by sisters, Ollie Knopp, of Fredericksburg, and Alma Jane Erwin, also of Fredericksburg.
