Run-offs to be decided Tuesday

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, as well as all day on Tuesday for runoff elections for both the Democrat and Republican Parties.

Caldwell County voters may cast early ballots in either party’s primary election at the LW Scott Annex, 1403 Blackjack St., in Lockhart, or at the Luling Civic Center, at 300 E. Austin St., in Luling.

Republic

an Party voters do not have a local race to decide during this runoff election. However, candidates in four statewide primary races will be decided at the runoff level.

In the race for the Lieutenant Governor’s seat, David Dewhurst and Dan Patrick have been squaring off in an acrimonious runoff race to determine who will face Democratic Party nominee Leticia Van de Putte in November.

As longtime Attorney General Greg Abbott abandons his seat to run for Governor, Republicans will decide whether Dan Branch or Ken Paxton will stand against Sam Houston on November’s Ballot.

In the race for the state’s Agriculture Commissioner, Republican Party candidates Tommy Merritt and Sid Miller advanced to this month’s runoff. The winner of that race will face the winner of the Democratic Party Runoff, between Richard “Kinky” Friedman and Jim Hogan.

Finally, voters who choose to participate in the Republican Party runoff will decide whether Wayne Christian or Ryan Sitton will face Steve Brown in the General Election.

On the other side of the aisle, Democratic Party voters are being asked to decide one local race, between Paul Gomez and Fermin Islas. The winner will face Republican nominee Kenneth Schawe in November for Caldwell County’s top seat.

Additionally, the race for US Senator will be decided at the primary level, between David M. Alameel and Kesha Rogers, one of whom will seek to oust incumbent John Cornyn in November.
