Vera Roberta Cardwell
Vera Roberta Cardwell passed away at her home in Lytton Springs on Wednesday, Sept. 15, surrounded by her family and friends. Roberta, 89, was the loving wife of Forister Cardwell. She and Forister met in her hometown of Pampa, Texas, where he was stationed while serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. They were married in Pampa on Dec. 31, 1944, and returned to L
ytton Springs after the war ended. Roberta retired as a rural mail carrier. She delivered mail in the Dale and Lytton Springs area for more than 25 years. She enjoyed her job and visiting with the local residents along her route.
Roberta was also a life-long member of the Church of Christ. She was very active in the Lockhart Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school and volunteered in activities such as Meals-on-Wheels, vacation bible school and various ministry outreach programs. Her faith was a very important part of her life and she dedicated her life to God and the church.
Roberta is survived by her husband of 65 years, Forister Cardwell; her son, Jerry Cardwell, of Lytton Springs, and her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Cindy Cardwell, of Pflugerville. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Christy Reyna and her great-grandson, Colby, of Lytton Springs, grandson William Cardwell, of Dale, and step-granddaughter, Carley Weber, of Pflugerville.
Visitation was held Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, from 6 – 9 p.m. at Eeds Funeral Home in Lockhart, Texas. Services were Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at 2 p.m. with Bro. Bob Barkley and Bro. Barrett Renfro officiating. Interment followed at the Lytton Springs Cemetery in Lytton Springs.
Serving as pallbearers were: William Cardwell, Jim Brewer, Trigg Forister, Bob Cheatham, Don Brewer and Shannon Bailey. Serving as honorary pallbearers were John Cardwell and Dr. P.A. Wales.
