William Charles Edwards
William Charles Edwards, 83, of Golden Age Home, Lockhart, Texas passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005.
Bill was born Nov. 29, 1922 in Pittsburgh, Pa. He spent the first years of his adulthood serving in the 4th Armored Division of Patton”s 3rd Army (1941-1945). After returning home, he married Betty on Nov. 8, 1945. Their home for 40 years was a gathering place for nei
ghborhood get-togethers, holiday celebrations, anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions.
Bill worked for Kroger Supermarkets for many years and retired. While not at work, Bill was always at home in the kitchen or out on the golf course with his buddies. His spaghetti sauce, served fresh or canned, was the best. His sweet smile and agreeable personality will remain in all our memories as a tribute to his wonderful life. Bill was a member of the Covenant Community Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Edwards and Marion Stephen Dunlap.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty Jane Butler Edwards; sisters Sylvia Dunlap of Maryland and Jean Vietor of North Carolina; and numerous relatives from both the Edwards and Butlers” families. Although they had no children of their own, “Uncle Bill” and “Aunt Betty” helped to raise countless children who benefited from their generosity, love and affection.
The family of “Willy Bear,” as Bill was so fondly known as, would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and all the caregivers at the Golden Age Home for the care received and love given to Bill.
A Memorial Service was held in the Chapel of the Golden Age Home, Lockhart, Texas on Friday, Dec. 30, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. with Bro. Gary Rodgers of First Lockhart Baptist Church of Lockhart officiating.
Final arrangements were made through Eeds Funeral Home, 408 South Main, Lockhart, Texas in accordance with Bill”s last wishes.
