William Peck Westmoreland Jr. passed away Saturday Dec. 18 at Doctor”s Regional Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. “Bubba” was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He and his brother, Brad, operated Westy”s Pharmacy in Lockhart, Texas. Peck graduated from Lockhart High School in 1960 and attended Southwest Texas State University. Af
ter Southwest Texas he served as editor for the Texas State Teachers Association, producing “Texas Outlook” magazine. Peck then worked for the Bastrop and Lockhart Chambers of Commerce. He served as City Councilman for the City of Lockhart from 1995-1996, prior to moving to Beeville, Texas.
“Bubba” as he was so affectionately known was born on Jan. 25, 1942 in Olney, Texas to Martha Alice Gray and William Peck Westmoreland Sr. He is the oldest of four siblings. Peck married Andrea Kaye Watkins on Aug. 19, 1972 in Burnet, Texas.
His wife, Andrea, and his two sons, Charles and wife Jamie, Bobby and wife Darci and their two sons Kolbe and Keegan, survive him. Peck”s siblings include Gray and wife Brenda Westmoreland, Lynn and Gene Majors, and Brad and wife Jackie Westmoreland. Extended family includes several nieces and nephews.
Peck touched the lives of everyone that he met. Whether it was a total stranger or a life-long friend, he always left a smile on their face. For anyone wanting to know what was truly going on in Lockhart, Peck was the man to go to. He gave much more than he could have ever received, his kindness and generosity will be truly missed. His warm smile and huge heart meant so much to the citizens of Lockhart. Peck loved playing with his two grandchildren, Kolbe and Keegan and was known to them not as Bubba, but as “Tootie.” If wealth were to be measured in friends, Bubba would be a very rich man many times over. Peck will forever be remembered as the man who gave everything and asked for nothing in return.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary”s Catholic Church in Lockhart, Texas on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004 at 2 p.m., with a reception following the service. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Peck Westmoreland Jr. Creative Writing/Journalism Scholarship Fund, in care of Lockhart High School, #1 Lion Country Drive, Lockhart, Texas 78644.
