On Tuesday, March 8, the Varsity Lady Lion softball team opened district play with a 10-0 run rule over the Lehman Lobos.

The scoring started early for Lockhart, as several Lady Lions reached base on walks and pushed pass home plate on pass balls. Amanda Capello hit a two-run single in the first to put the score 3-0 in Lockhart’s favor.

The Lady Lions scored two more ru

ns in the second, with Brianna Ortiz grabbing a single and RBI.

Finally in the fifth inning, Lockhart blew the game wide open, beginning with A. Capello, who knocked a double, followed by Morgan Rives, who had a sacrifice fly to score Ortiz.

Then Chelsea Capello followed up with a single to score her sister and put the Lady Lions ahead, 7-0.

But the best was yet to come for Lockhart, as Amber Hazelett and Mikaela Flores both hit triples to bring in the runners left on base and make the final score 10-0 Lady Lions. Senior pitcher Taylor Rives gave up only one hit on the night, striking out eight Lobos in the process. Strong defense added to the performance on the field, producing no errors.

On Friday, March 11, the Lady Lions team tallied another district victory, again run-ruling the competition in a dominant 10-0 performance against the Alamo Heights Lady Mules.

The Lady Mules lasted five complete innings, but fell resoundingly to the powerful Lady Lions.

Lockhart scored twice in the second inning on Lady Mule errors, and Jessica Henderson added a single and RBI to the board.

In the fourth, the Lady Lions Lions bats were smoking, with Mackinzee Griebel, Ortiz, and C. Capello all hitting doubles, followed by T. Rives with a triple and two RBI’s. The score sat at 8-0 at the end of the fourth.

The Lady Lions were hungry for the victory, seeking two more runs in the fifth to put the Lady Mules out of their misery. After Flores and Griebel reached base on a walk and an error, T. Rives sealed the deal for the Lady Lions, smashing a double to outfield to bring both Lady Lion runners home.

T. Rives also had another pivotal night on the mound for the Lady Lions, striking out seven Alamo Heights batters and giving up only one hit.
