The Lockhart Independent School District Board of Trustees met on Monday night to discuss plans for the coming year.
The main topic of discussion during the special-called meeting was the procedure the board will use for hiring a new superintendent to replace Dr. John Hall, who will take his retirement at the end of this

month.
During a meeting last week, the Trustees agreed to hire Dr. Bob Thompson to consult the district as the search process moves forward. Thompson, Hall said, is one of the most well-known and well-respected trainers of superintendents in the state.
As the search begins, Thompson asked each Trustee to choose three members of the community to serve on a panel to discuss the needs and wants of the community with regard to a new superintendent. The 21-member panel, he said, should meet on or about July 12.
Later, after determining what the board and the community expects from a new superintendent, Thompson will screen viable candidates and return the the Trustees to schedule interviews.
In the meantime, LISD is searching for a qualified Interim Superintendent, as the search process could take as long as six months.
In other news, the board hosted a public hearing to discuss the coming year’s budget with the community. Very few citizens were in attendance as the Trustees discussed the $41 million budget and a possible decrease in tax rates.
The LISD Board of Trustees will meet again on Monday, June 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lockhart High School Conference Center.
