Henry Herbert Tomlin, Jr. (known to family and friends as Buddy, Boto, Henry or Herbert) age 85 of Bastrop, Texas passed away on Tuesday June 12, 2018. He was born in Tyler, Texas on April 25, 1933 to Herbert and Sarah Frances McFadden Tomlin.
He was a proud graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School class of 1951, where he loved playing football. Henry was a Boy Scouts of America Master, leading Troop 409 of Austin, TX. He was a long-time member and Deacon of Kinney Avenue Baptist Church in Austin, and a member of Calvary Baptist in Bastrop where he also enjoyed signing in the choirs. Henry was a life member of The Scottish Rite. He was an accomplished lapidarist and enjoyed working in precious metals. During his life he planned and built two homes, both of which his family still enjoy. He served the citizens of Austin, TX for 28 years with the Austin Police Department achieving the rank of Sr. Sargent.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his only son, Kenneth James; and his brothers, Billy, Bobby and Donnie. Henry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carlene Wright Tomlin; his daughter, Jo Dee Tomlin Myatt; grandsons, Carlton Henry Tomlin, Brady E. Myatt and Adam J. Myatt; his sisters-in-law, Ann Broward Tomlin and Jane Lockridge and many other extended family members.
Services will be held at McCurdy Funeral Home with a visitation on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 5-7 pm and a funeral service on Friday, June 15th beginning at 10 am with interment to follow at Lytton Springs Cemetery.
