16 STRAIGHT DISTRICT TITLES
It was a humid morning last Saturday as the Lions readied themselves for the District 25 AAAA Cross County Meet. For all but one runner, it was the first time they had run in a varsity-level district competition. It did not matter that morning, for though they scored unusually high 24 points, the
Lions performed in predictable fashion as they outdistanced second place Canyon by 62 points. It was the largest margin of victory EVER by the Lions at a District meet.
Once again, junior Christopher West led the Lion charge. West, sitting back for most of the race, had to overcome a seemingly insurmountable lead by the young Canyon Cougar runner
In the end, Chris would not be denied as he rocketed past Robert Worley of Canyon for the individual District title with a time of 18:09. All the while Nick Yunkun (18:48) had a race on his hands as he had to come from behind to defeat a runner from New Braunfels to finish in the third spot individually. Third man for the Lions was Justin Platt (5th place, 19:05), who has continued to improve all season long. Sean Smith (7th, 19:15), Mason Larkin (8th, 19:29), Tyler Stewart-Richlen (9th, 19:35), and freshman Clay Culpepper (15th, 20:13) helped the Lions to their 16th straight District Title.
