Recently the community came together for the annual Tree of Angels Ceremony, a meaningful tradition that began in 1991 with People Against Violent Crime in Austin, Texas. Created by Verna Lee Carr, the Tree of Angels was established to support families affected by violent crime—offering a place of comfort, remembrance, and unity during the holiday season.
Since that first ceremony, the Tree of Angels has grown across Texas, providing survivors and loved ones a heartfelt way to honor those they’ve lost. Each ornament placed on the tree represents a life remembered, a family supported, and a community standing together.
The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office was honored to participate in this year’s ceremony, and Sheriff Mike Lane read the Governor’s Proclamation, reinforcing our continued commitment to standing with victims and their families.
May the angels placed on the tree continue to shine with love, healing, and hope.
