Lady Lions JV fights to maintain record
JV vs. Taylor
The Lady Lion J.V. traveled to Taylor Friday night to take on the Taylor Lady Ducks in a non-district volleyball match.
This match-up provided a great opportunity for the Lady Lions to face a competitive team on the road. The game went back and forth, with Lockhart taking an early lead.
The Lady Lions were really on their game as Chelsy Martin
ez had several sets to Ceci Smith.
“We really played a clean match,” said Coach David Johnston. “We served very well and did not make many passing errors.”
With the score 18-14 the Lady Lions reeled off five points in a row to take a 23-14 lead. Lockhart closed out the first game 25-18.
“Getting that first game is always huge…especially on the road,” Johnston added.
In Game Two, Lockhart again led the match by a two- or three-point margin through the midpoint of the contest.
With the Lady Lions ahead 13-10, Martinez served up nine straight points, including six aces. Taylor battled back against Lockhart”s commanding 22-10 lead, closing the gap to four points at 24-20.
Lockhart earned the final point and closed out the match at 25-20.
“We really were challenged in that second game,” Johnston said. “We need to work on closing out matches and not letting our opponents have chances to get back in the game.” “I am very proud of the girls,” he continued. “We are now 5-0 on the season but we need to continue improving each day in practice and every match.”
The Lady Lion J.V. consists of Ceci Smith, Jennifer Price, Chelsy Martinez, Shelby Ohlendorf, Tabitha Strawn, Heather Domel, Jessica Guerra, Julia Boykin, Sydney Porter, Karoline Pfefferkorn, Jannah Platt and Jordyn Platt.

After Comfort closed the lead to one point, Lockhart won 15 of the next 16 points, five from freshman setter Jordyn Platt and then 15 points from her older sister Jannah Platt.
“Jannah got into a rhythm on serve and it was phenomenal,” Johnston said.

“Comfort just beat Stockdale in three games and really had some confidence going,” he said. “It was important for us to step up and win that first game.”
