Lady Lions v. Lehman
Coming off two hard-fought losses to New Braunfels and New Braunfels Canyon, the team”s first defeats of the year, the Lockhart Lady Lion Freshman Volleyball Team easily rolled over the Lady Lobos of Lehman High School in two games last week, improving their overall record to 9-2.

Lady Lions v. Steele
The Lady Knights of Steele High Sc

hool came to visit the Lion”s Den this past Tuesday and won a back and forth match in three games against the Lady Lion Maroon Team, 23-25, 25-12, 25-21.
Some nice serving by Jordyn Platt and Bianca Juarez kept the visitors off balance for much of the first game with Platt serving six points in a row.
Hitting by Desiree Roland and Jamie Schulle kept the home team in the lead for Platt to serve out the first game on a service winner. The second game was decidedly one sided with the Lady Lions having a difficult time breaking the Lady Knights serve. Numerous serve receiving errors as well as serving errors of their own kept the Lady Lions down. The third game saw a much more energized home team battling the visitors back and forth until the end.
Allison Clark”s serving kept the Lady Lions close but too many errors and timely hitting by the Lady Knights was too much to over come.
“We had some critical errors at the worst times for us to come out on top,” said Coach Jack Davis. “I am extremely proud of their effort in the third game. The team could have easily been down after the second game but came out with great intensity. Give Steele credit, they never backed down and brought it to us.
“We were just too inconsistent to put them away,” Davis added.
The Lady Lion White Team had better success again the Lady Knights. Again, both teams had hot streaks and battled hard but in the end, the home team was able to secure the win, 25-16, 21-25, 25-19.
“We were able to keep them from getting on any kind of roll with their serve and that was really huge for us,” Davis said. “Each time they broke our serve, we broke right back.” Monique Smith had some nice digs and Cortney Ferris hit the ball extremely well in Game One.
The second game see-sawed back and forth with the visitors finding momentum at the end to get the win. The decisive game was close at the beginning but Ferris hit a streak of serving seven in a row, which gave the home team the lead they would never relinquish. Christina Knudsen played some nice back row defense and Desiree Winn had some nice hits in the game.

Lady Lions v. Del Valle
This past Friday the Lockhart Lady Lion Freshman Volleyball Team traveled to Del Valle to battle the Lady Cardinals in district play. Both the White Team and the Maroon Team were in action and both played great games and prevailed in two games. The White Team won their match 25-9, 25-14, while the Maroon Team won 25-16, 25-17.
The White Team served well on the night and played strong defense, never letting the home team more than one consecutive serve.
“Our defense and hustle were great tonight,” Davis said.
Both Allison Clark and Monique Smith had great serving games while Megan Corbitt set the ball great for Audrey Aguilar to put away. In each game, the Lady Lions ability to serve was a key.
“Jocelyn Coleman and Cortney Ferris served wonderfully when we needed them,” Davis said. “We played well as a team tonight.”
The Maroon Team came out a little slow against the home team but behind Bianca Juarez”s and Jordyn Platt”s serving, the game quickly turned to the Lady Lions.
“Our serving and the hitting of Jamie Schulle and Desiree Roland overwhelmed Del Valle tonight,” Davis said. “Kelsey Dailey and Lauren Moore had monster serving games which kept Del Valle down. I”m extremely proud of their team effort tonight.”
Defensively the Lady Lions were very strong, limiting the home team to only one three-point rally.
The Lady Lions hosted the Lady Buffaloes of Clemens on Tuesday, ending the first round of district play. Friday, the Lady Lions will travel to Buda to play the Hays Lady Rebels, starting the second round of district play. First serve will come at 5 p.m.
