Eighth grade ‘A’ Lions tame Mustangs 41-39 OT

The eighth grade “A” basketball team defeated the Dahlstrom Mustangs 41-39 last Thursday in overtime.
The Lions took the lead 15-9 after the first quarter and were able to maintain the lead through good defense and scoring. The Lions outscored the Mustangs on a 10-4 run during the second quarter and ended the first half on t
op 25-13.
Determined, Dahlstrom came back in the third quarter and out scored Lockhart 12-8, which ended the quarter 33-25, with Lockhart in a slight lead.
The Mustangs continued to play well and closed the gap, which ended regulation time tied 39-39.
In the minute allowed during overtime, Johnny Juarez scored the first basket to put Lockhart on top 41-39.
Looking for the win, Dahlstrom put up a good fight, the Lions were able to keep them from scoring.
Although he was fouled, Jason Sanders was able to score the final basket of the game and make his free throw, which put the final score 44-39.
Sanders led the team in scoring with 10 points and was closely followed by Juarez”s nine points. Christian Estrada added seven points while Adam Renteria, Rafael Regalado and Jacob Castillo had six points each.
“The kids played a good game on Thursday against Dahlstrom,” said coach Jeremy Rodriguez.
Rodriguez cited A.J. Maderal, Michael Williams, Cameron Peters, Johnny Juarez, Jason Sanders and Jacob Castillo all as defensive standouts.
