Olan Tomme
Olan Alford Tomme went home on May 22, 2016, to meet our Heavenly Father. His last months were spent in San Antonio, Texas, and his death was due to complications following kidney cancer.
Mr. Tomme was born in Livingston, Texas, on July 22, 1945 to O.A. and Helen Tomme. He attended Stark High School in Orange, Texas, Blinn College in Brenham, and graduated from Sam Houston
State University in Huntsville, Texas, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology.
Mr. Tomme resided in many cities throughout the State of Texas, including Trinity, Katy, Huntsville, and Red Rock. As long as he was in Texas, he was home.
His most recent residence was near Lockhart, in a small community known as McMahan, Texas, where he worked for the local newspaper, the Lockhart Post-Register, as the advertisement sales manager.
Mr. Tomme lived a very eventful life. He had the privilege of recruiting coordinator for the Sam Houston State University football team, scouted in the CFL, and he scouted for the L.A. Raiders in the early 1980’s during one of their journeys to winning Super Bowl XVIII. He had an unprecedented love for sports, especially football.
He also loved traveling overseas for work, and being one of the most talented sales people anyone had ever met.
Many years at the holidays, if you’d look close enough, behind that long white beard and jolly Santa suit, there he was taking young children’s gift requests just before a keepsake picture was taken. His personality and presentation of himself drew people to him and there wasn’t ever a person he didn’t know.
Mr. Tomme had a unique work ethic, which extends into his children’s lives today.
Mr. Tomme was an avid participant in his children’s youth activities; he took special joy in his son’s basketball, football and FFA experience, his oldest daughter’s volleyball and swimming and his youngest daughter’s softball career. He supported all of their endeavors into their adulthood. Because of his involvement in his children’s lives, he, on many occasions, became the father figure for so many others as well. He has touched so many hearts and his legacy will live on through so many.
Mr. Tomme is survived by his children: Kyle Tomme, daughter-in-law, Jamie, and granddaughter Camille; daughter, Tenille Eubanks, son-in-law, Rick, and grandsons, Hunter, Powers and Xander; and daughter, Jennie Peek, son-in-law, Jacob, granddaughters, Bailey and Riley, and grandson, Brantley; his sister, Carolyn Taylor; nephews, Glenn, Richy and Darrell, niece, Belinda, and their spouses; as well as numerous cousins and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, O.A. and Helen Tomme, and wife, Jeanie Braun Tomme.
The celebration and memorial service for Mr. Tomme’s life will be held at Pennington Funeral Home in San Marcos, Texas on May 28, 2016, at 3 p.m. Per his wishes, cremains will be buried in Rye, Texas, at Concord Cemetery.

Our prayers are with our former classmate, Olan. May you rest in peace with your beloved Jeanie. We are fortunate that the two of you were able to attend the 50th class reunion two years ago. Goodbye my friend. Jerry Gatch Class of 1964.
Olan was such a wonderful man, he always had a kind word to say and an ear to listen. I enjoyed the times he would visit us at the store in McMahan. I met him through his wife Jeanie which I’ve known for years, I so enjoyed listing to them both. Olan will be greatly missed by all that had the awesome experience of meeting him. God Bless the family.
I remember Olan from high school, living in Houston and a 50th high school reunion. I remember his friendliness and particularly his hearty laugh. He loved life and he was loved. He is at peace, but always in our hearts and memories. God holds you now, Olan. Allis Rennie
Olan came to our last two High School reunion events, and I was so glad to see him again. Olan had an easy soothing way about him that inspired confidence and sharing of histories. I can see that he would have been an excellent salesman. He didn’t rush and seemingly had all the time in the world to talk to you. Never scanning the crowd to see who was next. None of us knew that he was ill.
We will miss him and he will occupy a cherished spot in our memories.
So sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. We enjoyed him at our 50th reunion. I know he will be missed. Prayers for your family.
So sorry to hear about Olan. I only knew him a few years here in Lockhart, but he made a great impression very quickly as a kind, sweet, friendly and funny man. He and Jeanie were such a cute couple. They are both missed. My prayers go out to you and your family.
