Juan J. Alvarez
God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life John 3:16.
On July 5, 2016, surrounded by his wife Angela and his loving family, Juan J. Alvarez walked into the Light of God to everlasting life. Juan J. Alvarez was born on Sept. 30, 1943, to Manuel and Evita J. Alvare
z in Concordia, Coahuila, Mexico. On Dec. 11, 1961, he married the love of his life, Angela DeLeon Alvarez and they shared 54 years and five children, 15 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Juan retired in September 2009 from Centex Materials after 35 years of service where he worked as a Plant Foreman. He was honored to serve as an Usher at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Martindale, Texas, and attended Mass faithfully throughout his life.
Juan was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Evita J. Alvarez; his sister, Rosa Fabela Alvarez and brothers-in-law Frank Rodriguez, Jr. and Antonio DeLeon.
He is survived by his loving wife, Angela Alvarez; three brothers: Antonio Alvarez (Margarita) of McAllen, Texas, Margarito Alvarez (Janis) of Middletown, Ohio, and Juan Fabela Alvarez (Maria Del Sacorro Garza Martinez), of Piedras Negras, Mexico; three sons: Juan Alvarez, Jr., of Lockhart, Manuel Alvarez (Melissa), of Dale, and Peter Alvarez of, Austin; two daughters, Linda Estrada (Abel), of Lockhart, and Vita Eklund (Thomas), of Lockhart.
He was deeply loved by his grandchildren: John Henry Alvarez, of San Marcos, Jacob Raul Alvarez (April), of Lockhart, Brandi Nicole Alvarez, of Lockhart, Thomas Anthony Vasquez (Patty), of Austin, Manuel Scot Alvarez (Heather), of Austin, Christopher Allen Alvarez, of Austin, Jonathan Robert Alvarez, of Lockhart, Kelly Lavale Alvarez, of Austin, Jackie Alvarez Toungate (Brandon), of Harwood, Leslie Ann Jacobs, of San Marcos, Abel Xavier Estrada, III, of Lockhart, Juan Luis Estrada, of Lockhart, Thomas Grady Eklund, Jr., of Lockhart, Matthew Jaymes Eklund, of Lockhart, and Kelsey Angela Eklund, of Lockhart; and five great-grandchildren: Devon Toungate, Wiley Reid Toungate, Andrew Scot Alvarez, Kate Elizabeth Alvarez and Charlotte Emmalaya Alvarez, who will miss his hugs; and also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins of the DeLeon and Alvarez families and many, many friends.
Family will receive friends from 3 – 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at McCurdy Funeral Home, with the recitation of the Rosary being held at 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The mass of celebration will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2016, with Father Edward Karasek officiating. Burial services will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Juan Alvarez, Jr., Manual Alvarez, Thomas Grady Eklund, Jr., Abel Xavier Estrada, III, Antonio Alvarez and Peter Alvarez. Honorary pallbearers are all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
