Preston Cargile

Preston Ellis Cargile was born Aug. 12, 1930, to Daniel Webster Cargile and Annie Irene (Goodwin) Cargile at Roaring Springs, Texas. He died Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, in Lockhart, Texas. Preston was the oldest of three children. He has two sisters, Marlene and Danny Rue. He graduated from Sudan High School and soon after joined the Army. He rose to the rank of Sergeant and served in Korea.

Preston married Charlene Watson on Aug. 13, 1953, in Muleshoe, Texas. They had four children: Cassandra, Karen, Wade, and Elaine. He farmed and ranched in Parmer County until retiring in 2008 to Caldwell County. Preston had horses since childhood, and in later years participated in cutting horse competitions. He never met a stranger and was involved in his church and the community. Preston was a deacon in the Primitive Baptist Church. He enjoyed studying his bible and discussing the scriptures.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Daniel Wade Cargile.
Preston is survived by Charlene, his wife of 64 years; his daughters, Cassandra (John) Baker of Lockhart, Karen (Mark) Barnes, of Farwell, Texas, Elaine (Ralph) Stevenson, Amistad, N.M, and daughter-in-law, Cindy Cargile (David) Bass of Wichita, Kan.
He has seven grandchildren: Traver Stevenson, Leslie Cargile, Trey Stevenson, Tara Mahon, Danielle Turner, Amanda Vasquez, and Matthew Barnes. He has four great-grandchildren and two due in 2018. He is also survived by his sisters Marlene McDonald, of Muleshoe, Texas and Danny Rue (Dwayne) Menefee, of Durant, Okla.
Funeral services were scheduled Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in McMahan, Texas, at 10 a.m. with burial in Jeffrey Cemetery immediately following.
