Homer D. Barber
Homer D. Barber, retired cattleman of Lecompte and native of Dale, Texas, died May 29, 2007, at Naomi Heights Nursing Home, Alexandria, La.
A graduate of Lockhart High School, Lockhart, Texas, he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track, winning many medals. His education continued at Centenary College, Shreveport, La., and at LSU. He never missed seeing L
SU play football in Tiger Stadium for over 40 years.
He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving as GM/2 on the USS Pennsylvania in the Pacific Theater of Operations, and being recognized for his speed and accuracy in operations. During the Korean War he was on patrol on the USS Sausalito.
A member of Lamourie Baptist Church, Lecompte, La. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Louisiana, the Shriners, Louisiana Cattleman”s Association and Farm Bureau.
His parents, Aiton A. and Florence Threadgill Barber and brother Roy Lee Barber predeceased him.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy K. Barber, niece Carolyn B. Hudler of Beaumont, nephew Roy L. Barber of Austin, sister-in-law Dorothy Barber Fulps of Lockhart, Texas; and niece Deborah Mashaw and sister-in-law Frances Mashaw of Zachary, La.
