Gloria Gail Hellums
Gloria Gail Hellums went to be with our Lord on June 3, 2018 at the age of 66. She was born in Bastrop, Texas to Sylvia and Harold Hellums.
Gail graduated from Bastrop High School with the class of 1969. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in arts and education from Southwest Texas State University (TSU) and then her Master’s degree in education and reading specialty from the University of Texas. She began her teaching career in Bastrop and ended it in Lockhart. She retired from the education system after 30 years. Gail’s teaching was not limited to a classroom as she was a mentor to anyone needing guidance and counseling. Gail’s other hobbies and passions included theatre arts, both on stage and directing. Her love for all people is unmatched.
She is preceded in death by her parents. Gail is survived by her sister, Lana Turner and her husband Gene; brother, Denis Hellums and his wife Donna; niece and nephews, Terry Turner, Lyn Turner, Jeremy Hellums (Kari), Aaron Hellums (Katie), Matthew Hellums (Alex), Matthew Foster (Heather), Christa Shipwash; fifteen great nieces and nephews; extended family and close friends Chris and Morgan Nutt.
A celebration of Gail’s life will be held at 10:00am at the Cedar Creek United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 16, 2018.
