Just after 9:15 a.m. on Friday morning, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department received a call regarding a possible deceased female found on a Luling-area roadside.
The call came from the Luling Police Department, according to CCSO officials, and gave a repor
t of a female, possibly deceased, found off of County Road 135, near Highway 183, in the area of a bridge over Plum Creek.
Officials arriving on the scene found the body of a white female, later identified as Althea N. Brown, 57, of Anthony, N.M. Brown was pronounced dead by Precinct Two Justice of the Peace Homer Horne, who requested an autopsy report. The autopsy was performed on Saturday and results are still pending, CCSO reported on Wednesday morning.
In addition, the Department of Public Safety sent a crime lab team to assist with processing the scene. Detectives are continuing the investigation and awaiting results of the autopsy report.
Initial findings of the investigation led to the arrest of Jeffery Neil Rucks, 46, who initially reported the incident to police. He was taken into custody at the scene and charged with Murder and Abuse of a Corpse. He remains in jail, and no bond had been set at press time.
CCSO officials report that Rucks and Brown were involved in a relationship, and were likely boyfriend and girlfriend.
Further information regarding the incident is unavailable for release pending the conclusion of the investigation.
