Frank Macias Castañeda
Frank Macias Castañeda passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord on Nov. 17, 2007 at the age of 87. Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Andrea Cortez Castañeda, sons: Paul, Robert and wife, Olga, and Bill and wife, Lisa; grandchildren: Myssie and husband, Mark, Rosyln, Anthony and Allison; and great-grandchild, Christian. rs: Mary-Ann and husband, Harvey, Janie and husband, Philip, Zeba and husband, Humberto, stepbrother Johnny and wife, Mary, and numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.
Frank was the oldest of three sons and was born and raised in Lockhart, Texas. He proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II and the Vietnam War. Frank and his wife, Ann, started their life together in Brooklyn, N.Y., as WWII was coming to a close. They returned to Texas and raised their three sons in San Marcos.
He was an expert mechanic, receiving awards for mechanical innovations. Frank was the proud owner of a 1964 Ford Mustang. As he approached retirement from Randolph AFB, he and his wife resettled in Schertz, Texas.
Frank will be missed by his family and friends, as he was best known for helping others, telling jokes, stories, crossword puzzles, love of children and willingness to play anyone in a game of dominoes.
Visitation was held on Tuesday Nov. 20, 2007 from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m., with family receiving friends at the family home from 6 – 8 p.m., and will continue on Wednesday, Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends at the funeral home beginning at 6 p.m. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7 p.m.
A Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, 2007 at St. Monica”s Catholic Church in Converse. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
