Alfred James McClain
Alfred James McClain (fondly referred to as “Bro. Mack,” A.J., and Allie A.) was born to Odell G. McClain and Edna M. Branch-McClain on April 19, 1949 in Lockhart, Texas.
He attended George Washington Carver Elementary, George Washington Carver High School and, after desegregation, Lockhart High School, where he participated in track and field and football.
He wa
s drafted into the military, where he loyally served his country during the Vietnam War. After departure from the military, he exhibited a love for his country as demonstrated by daily flying of his American Flag. He was an avid sportsman enjoying fishing and hunting. He was a true Texan; he loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns.
Alfred joined First Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized. He was a member of the Usher Board (which he loved).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna McClain; one sister, Joyce M. Brown; and two brothers, Harold E. McClain Sr. and Minister Carl G. McClain.
Alfred leaves to cherish his memories: his father Odell G. McClain; three daughters, Anjanette S. McClain-Routt (Marlon Routt) of Elgin, Kari McClain of Cleveland, Ohio, and Bridgette Easley; grandson Jerrnaine Routt; two brothers, CSM Robert L. McClain (Jerelene) and Armando H. McClain; four sisters, Jacalyn McClain-Guyton (Ira), Iris McClain-Knight (Eugene), Pat McClain-Reed (Willie) and Becky McClain-Carter (Fred); and his extended family, Debra Washington, Officer Joy Gamble and Carl Phillip Jones; uncles Ottis McClain (Marva), Steave McClain (Ann) and Wilbert Branch; former wife and friend Mary Williams-McClain; special cousin Travis Branch; and close family friend Ruben Perales III.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Dec.15, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lockhart, Texas, with Pastor Edward M. Fleming, Sr., officiating. Interment followed immediately at the Hooks Cemetery in Lockhart.
Serving as the pallbearers were Tom Guyton, Jeff Guyton, Kevin McClain, Armann Brown, Travis Branch and Jerome Love. The honorary pallbearers were Sammie Williams (special brother-in-law) Kenneth McClain, Greg McClain and Henry E. Branch.
The McClain family wishes to acknowledge with sincere appreciation for all expressions of sympathy and kindness shown to them during their time of bereavement.
