Glenn ” Pat” Ramsey

Glenn Patrick Ramsey, who was known by all as “Pat,” passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008. He died just a few weeks prior to his 93rd birthday. He was born March 17, 1915.
Mr. Ramsey was born in Missouri and lived a number of years in Illinois. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp during the years of the Great Depression, and later went to work for the U.S.

Air Force as a civil service employee. In 1951 he moved his family from Illinois to Waco, Texas. While in Waco he attended Baylor University and graduated in 1954 with a degree in business.
In 1957, they moved to New Braunfels and he commuted daily to Randolph Air Force Base until his retirement in 1972 after 35 years of service.
Never one to slow down, he started a career in real estate working for Nowotny Realty Company for nine years.
He married Dorothy Medhurst on Feb. 9, 1935. They had four daughters, Carol Ann, Lois Mae, Diana Kay, and Patty Lou. Dorothy passed away in 1983 after a long illness. During the years of her illness Mr. Ramsey cared for Dorothy daily. The Ramsey family enjoyed traveling and visited most of the United States together.
In 1987 he married Ora Boothe. They had many happy years together and spent a great deal of time traveling the world. They thanked God every day for their life together. They celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary on Nov. 30, 2007.
Mr. Ramsey enjoyed life to the fullest. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and game player. Two of his favorite table games were bridge and dominoes. He also enjoyed ping-pong, tennis and golf with his family and friends.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Braunfels and served as a church deacon for over 50 years. He spent many years volunteering at the church, going on mission trips, and serving in leadership roles. He always supported the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board and now has one grandson under appointment by the board; serving with his wife and children in the Middle East.
He was an active member of the Lions Club, the Comal Senior Citizens Center in New Braunfels and National Active and Retired Federal Retired Employees Association. (NARFE). He was a member of chapter 0666 of NARFE for over 25 years, and served four terms as its president.
Mr. Ramsey was known for his honesty, and for being a considerate Christian. He would always lend a helping hand whenever possible to those in need. He endeavored to live by the Ten Commandments, was a life-long student of the Bible, and shared his Christian faith will others. His motto was, “it is better to give than to receive.” He wrote several books about his life and published several poems and even won several national awards for his poetry.
To his family he was the Patriarch. He was the rock to his children and grandchildren. He is remembered as a pillar of strength, but also for his kindness and fair treatment of all. He was witty and humorous, and was still cracking jokes until the last few days of his life. He was an encourager to those around him and always raised the spirits of others telling them to “keep trying” and “keep the faith.” He was truly one of the most genuine and good people to walk this earth.
His light went out on Jan. 30, 2008, but his memory will enlighten all who knew and loved his remarkable man.
He is survived by his wife, Ora Boothe Ramsey of New Braunfels; daughters, Carol Sandum and husband Dr. Charles Sandum of Battle Creek, Mich.; Lois Hahn and husband, the Reverend Robert Hahn of Lockhart, Texas; Diana Bragdon and husband, the Reverend Bill Bragdon, of Hoover, Ala.; and Patty Kattner and husband, Dr. Max Kattner of Gulf Breeze, Fla.
He is also survived by nine grandsons and one granddaughter: Steve Sandum, Keith Sandum, Thomas Sandom, David Bragdon, Daniel Bragdon, Andy Kattner, Fred Kattner, Chris Kattner, James Hahn and Sharon Hahn and by 16 great-grandchildren who serve as honorary pallbearers; as well as several nieces and nephews. His step-children are Clyde Boothe and wife, Alicia, of New Braunfels, and Martha Maranda and husband, J.R., of Bastrop, Texas. He is survived by six step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence L. and Stella Orpha Ramsey; brother, Ben Ramsey; and sisters, Helen Wilson, Eva Swanson, Enola Simons and Donna Brenneisen..
Visitation will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa, New Braunfels, on Thursday Feb. 7, 2008 from 4 – 9 p.m. with family members present from 5 – 7 p.m.
Services for Mr. Ramsey will be held at the First Baptist Church of New Braunfels on Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at 11 a.m. His son-in-law, the Reverend Robert Hahn, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Lockhart, will officiate. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
