Harry Max Reininger, Sr.

Harry Max Reininger, Sr., of Delhi, Texas passed away on June 4, 2008, at 84. He was born Nov. 6, 1923, the youngest of three sons born to Albert Charlie and Minna Johanna Kretzschmar Reininger. His parents and his brothers Willie Rudolph Reininger and Frank Lynn Reininger, preceded him in death.
At the age of 19, he was drafted into service in World War II, and he se

rved with honor in the South Pacific with 1897th Aviation Engineer Bn. He was also a reservist with the 49th.
On Sept. 11, 1943, he married his childhood friend, Evelyn Pehl, and they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary last September. Their five children are Patricia Ann and husband, Russell G. Molenaar, Sr.; David and wife, Cheryl Sue Couey Reininger; Harry M. Reininger, Jr. (Sonny) and wife, Sharon Ann Wyles Reininger; Tonya Marie and husband, Curtis Slovanek; and Marie Evelyn and husband, Steven Kirk Mayfield. He is survived by 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Harry loved to build furniture, grandfather clocks and boats. He owned and operated the HR Cabinet Shop in Austin for many years. He went to work for General Services Administration in 1966, and was promoted to a position at Kelly AFB, and again to Bergstrom AFB, where he retired in 1984from the 67th Civil Engineers, as a Contract Administrator.
Harry was a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a life member of VFW Post 8925 in Pilot Knob.
His great-grandparents, Johannes and Anna Maria Formberg Reininger, came to the Republic of Texas in 1844 and settled in New Braunfels. The log cabin Johannes and Anna Maria built and raised their family and many grandchildren in is now privately owned and was moved to the Conservation Park, in New Braunfels. Harry’s maternal grandparents, Julius Franz and Lena Landrock Kretzschmar came to Central Texas around 1866. They settled at Elroy, Texas, and were among of the 12 founders of Salem Lutheran Church in 1888. The Landrock Family has been traced to the 1200s in Germany. The Reininger Family has been traced back to the 1700s.
Services were held at Salem Lutheran church, 9322 FM 812, Austin, Texas, at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 6 with Pastor Shelly Kronbergs officiating. Burial was held Capital Parks. Visitation took place at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart on Thursday, June 5 from 6 – 8 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Russell Molenaar, Jr., Kevin Michael Molenaar, and Patrick Ryan Reininger; and grandsons-in-law, Michael Patrick Brown, Bert Lundell and Ronald McGill. Honorary pallbearer was grandson, Lonnie Max Mayfield.
His family suggests that those desiring to honor his memory, contribute to a charity of their choice, or to Salem Lutheran Church.
