Morris Cooper Guidry

Morris “Chico” Guidry of Dale, Texas passed away on July 16, 2020 after a lengthy illness. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Joseph Guidry. He is survived by his mother, Pat Littledog, his brother Morgan MacLaren Guidry, his sister Brook Lucille Guidry, his nephews Morgan Xerox Guidry and Corey Douglas White, his uncles Patick Maclaren Ellis and Richard Carlton Ellis and his very good friend Randy Glenn Mayfield.
Morris was funny, kind, creative and wise. He loved life above all else and loved to sing and dance. He was a one-time manager of Paperbacks Plus in Austin. After hours he would play his own films and others through a rented projector from Austin Community College, as well as film wonderful singers and songwriters from Songwriters Circle who would sing and play instruments for hours at a time.. In addition he produced several other events including several bands and spoken Poetry, several who became famous over the years, including Ricardo Sanchez, Naomi Shihab Nye and Raul Salinas. He also sang with his brother Morgan Guidry’s band called the Whores. He wrote a book of poetry called “A Solitary Bird”, now a classic. He decided enthusiastically to move from the city to the country, on the ten acres his family shares, from 1997 to 2020 where he ultimately died and where his ashes will be spread.
There will be no funeral, except for the spreading of the ashes with music , fire, and dance as he would have wanted.
