Junior Varsity Lions fight hard, fall 57-48

The Junior Varsity Lions fought hard against the Lake Travis Cavaliers, but fell 57-48 at the Lion’s Den on Friday, Dec. 19.
The first quarter was the closest, as far as scoring was concerned. The Lions scored 13 points while the Cavaliers scored 15.
Both teams seemed evenly matched and their level of play was competi
tive except the second quarter when the Lions scored only nine points to the Cavaliers’ 14. The first half ended at 29-22.
The Lions got back in the game in the third quarter, scoring 14 points as the Cavaliers added another 16 to their score. The third ended at 45-36.
Scoring in the fourth quarter was even. Both teams scored 12 points in their final effort of the night, but it was the Cavaliers who prevailed with a game-winning score of 57-48.
Scoring in the first quarter came from J. C. Winkler, Dustin Watkins and Dylan Plummer.
Winkler scored a total of eight points with four two pointers, Watkins scored three with a free throw and a two point shot and Plummer made his own two point shot.
Sergio Juarez scored five points with a free throw and a pair of two pointers. Matt Mendez and Jay Baltierra scored two points each.
The third quarter scoring came from Watkins, Juarez, Baltierra and Bryan McBride.
Watkins scored eight points with three two-pointers and two free throws. Juarez, Baltierra and Mc Bride each scored a two point shot.
Scoring in the fourth was Watkins again with a total of nine points. He made one three pointer and three two pointers. Plummer made a two pointer and Winkler made a free throw.
The Lions will travel to Kyle to face the Lehman Lobos on Friday, Jan. 2. Their next home game will be against the Manor Mustangs at the Lion’s Den on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Tip off will be at 7 p.m.
