Martha Nell Holmes

Martha Nell Holmes went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 9:30 p.m.

She was born on June 24, 1921, to Wayne W. and Nora Crook Ellison.

She graduated from Martindale High School and received Bachelor of Arts and Master’s degrees from Southwest Texas State Teachers College and began her teaching career in 1940. She retired in

1980.

Martha Nell married her high school sweetheart, Everett Holmes, in 1942.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Turley and son, Robert, of San Marcos; son, Mike and wife, Shelley, of Martindale; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and thousands of “brothers and sisters in love,” literally around the world.

Her message is “love one another,” and practice the Golden Rule in all ways.
Visitation with the family was held from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2009. Funeral services were scheduled at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8 at Pennington’s Funeral Home, with burial following in the Martindale Cemetery.
